Shofuso Japanese House Spider 2 :: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Shofuso Japanese House Spider 2  This is one of the largest spiders I have seen to date. It measured approximately 4" x 4" x 3/4". Although it looks really dangerous, it is actually just a garden spider.

The Japanese House and Garden (Shofuso) is one of the most notable and unusual attractions in Philadelphia.

This shoin-zukuri (desk-centered) house, built in 16th century style, is located on the grounds of the Horticultural Center in the West Philadelphia section of Fairmount Park. The perfectly proportioned architecture of the main structure and adjoining tea house is enhanced by an ornamental garden and picturesque pond.
