Lovers´ Park :: Lima, Perú :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Lovers' Park  Throwing all modesty out the window, this park encourages couples to come and make out. It is also a popular spot for post-wedding visits.
Riot Tank :: Lima, Perú :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Riot Tank  The painted teeth and lips add a little humor to this otherwise foreboding vehicle. It´s good to know the riot police have some fun with their job. The turret at the top is a high-powered water hose.

Trombone Catching :: Lima, Perú :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Trombone Catching  I loved watching these kids trying to catch the slider of this trombone. When the musician saw the kids lacking a little interest, he would lower the slider just within reach, and then when they jumped at it, he would raise it up again.
Riot Police Chillin´ :: Lima, Perú :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Riot Police Chillin'  Taking a break from the mundane job of quelling the local riots and political overthrows, these guys look like normal people when they are not firing tear gas and flash grenades.
Classic Group Pose In Front Of Riot Police :: Lima, Perú :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Classic Group Pose In Front Of Riot Police  I suppose because these guys were in the middle of the main plaza is the only reason they did not beat up these tourists for mocking their duty. I´m sure there was someone keeping track of the names of the tour companies, so they could pay them a visit later with the riot tank

Catacumbas 5 :: Lima, Perú :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Catacumbas 5  Underneath San Francisco de Asis and related buildings are the bones of some 20,000 priests, monks, and clergy. Neatly organized by bone type (and in some cases size), these bones have been down there for almost 500 years. After the decree of one generation, they stopped this ritual. This particular photo made me a little concerned. I think the embalming fluids got to their heads one day when production was light.

Catacumbas 3  This shot shows clearly that the catacombs are directly beneath the church. Taken from the basement, you can see the ceiling of the church through the grate at the top of the image. Underneath San Francisco de Asis and related buildings are the bones of some 20,000 priests, monks, and clergy. Neatly organized by bone type (and in some cases size), these bones have been down there for almost 500 years. After the decree of one generation, they stopped this ritual.
