Voltri Vii Shadows  This is a play of shadows from a sculpture by David Smith
Stern Keel :: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania :: © 2006 Patrick Esmonde
Stern Keel  It´s still amazing to me how this little fin can make the boats turn so quickly! The entire keel doesn´t move either, just a portion of it. I really wanted to play with this, but my father told me that the sculls were very expensive and I have historically broken things through my rather exploratory nature.
Rowing Shell Stern Composition :: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania :: © 2006 Patrick Esmonde
Rowing Shell Stern Composition  I really liked the contrast of colors in this composition. The bright yellow shell made the green really... well... green. When I was studying art, one concept that they taught was that motion could be captured more easily through diagonal lines. Coincidentally, this was shown through a painting of a rower by Thomas Eakins, an American Realist. Through much of my other work, this composition style is explored and I have been very happy with my results.
