Shofuso Japanese House 1 :: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Shofuso Japanese House 1  The Japanese House and Garden (Shofuso) is one of the most notable and unusual attractions in Philadelphia.

This shoin-zukuri (desk-centered) house, built in 16th century style, is located on the grounds of the Horticultural Center in the West Philadelphia section of Fairmount Park. The perfectly proportioned architecture of the main structure and adjoining tea house is enhanced by an ornamental garden and picturesque pond.

Shofuso Japanese House Flowers :: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Shofuso Japanese House Flowers  In a small corner of the house, I found this vase of flowers quietly sitting there waiting to be seen. Very much in the Ikebana style, the delicate beauty of this arrangement really caught my eye. Simple beauty, one of my main quests in life.

Shofuso Japanese House Spider 1 :: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania :: © 2004 Patrick Esmonde
Shofuso Japanese House Spider 1  This is one of the largest spiders I have seen to date. It measured approximately 4" x 4" x 3/4". Although it looks really dangerous, it is actually just a garden spider.

Ben Franklin Bridge  This photo was taken while on the Delaware River on "The Duck" tour in Philadelphia. While I normally avoid these types of touristy rides, I learned a lot about my hometown (and I was able to ride in an amphibious vehicle)
